Donnington Park 19th-22nd June Thundersport and Moto GP

Monday, June 30th, 2008

We had 2 qualifying sessions .In the 1st dry session i qualified 10 of 41 riders , the second wet session i was quickest.

RACE 1 SATURDAY: 10th on the grid and the race was damp but not raining. My start was good and i managed to work my way into 2ndplace. I put in some quick laps but couldn’t catch 1st place so finished second. My best finish at Thundersport.

RACE 2 SUNDAY: This time conditions were dry i had a great battle  all race withthe riders around me and finished 7th.

I really enjoyed the whole weekend, i watched some of the main events especially on Friday. I didn’t go autograph hunting but Bradley Smith handed me my trophy on the Saturday. I like to thank all at Thundersport, Ian Newton, Nitro and Aprilia for a great weekend . Next Snetterton………………

Brands Hatch 31st May-1st June with Thundersport

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

Brands Hatch a track i was really looking forward to riding.

I qualified 19 but it was very close between me and the next 6 or 7 riders.

RACE 1: Didn’t have a great start and even lost some places into the 1st corner finished 18th.

RACE 2: A better start managed to make up a few places in the race finished 14th.

RACE 1: Had a good start made up a few places but once i got up to 14th a had a good battle changing positions lap by lap . Finished 13th.

RACE 2: After a big wash out of about 5 riders in the 1st lap the race was red flagged . The race was restarted i got a good start but once i got to 6th place i couldn’t make the gap up to 5th . I finished 6th.

My first time at Brands Hatch and i really enjoyed it. I felt much better in myself than Cadwell eventhough my cold was still hanging over me. Brands hatch really suited my smooth riding style it was great to be at a track i had only played on playstation before.

Next race Donnington Park the support race with moto gp……another track i haven’t been to so its back to the playstation.

Cadwell Park 18-19th May Thundersport GB

Sunday, May 25th, 2008

SATURDAY and my 1st time at Cadwell Park i qualified 23rd of 41 riders.

1st RACE: My start was much better the race got red flagged a few times and i finished 13th of 33 riders.

2nd RACE: I got a really good start and lead the the race, as i went into a corner a rider under took me hitting my handlebars. I ran off the track onto the grass. I managed to keep the bike up right and rejoined the race putting in my fastest lap of the race to finish 5th of 23 riders.

That was my 1st day at Cadwell. I found it a hard track to learn, but was pleased as my lap times had improved during the day and i knew where i was losing time.

1st RACE: My start was good and my lap times improved finished 14th of 33riders.

2nd RACE: I got a good start and lead the race again for a few laps but couldn’t hold the pace and finished 3rd.

I had a good weekend, my starts have really improved. Normally i have no problem learning new tracks, but i found Cadwell a real challenge. Not feeling 100% i found it hard choosing the right lines for my riding style. I felt i did well and it was great to be on the podium in the last race. Next race Brands Hatch 31st May with Thundersport GB………

Mallory Park 20th April EMRA championship

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

It was the 2nd round of the Emra championship. The 1st round on March 2nd i had entered on my 70cc conti as i didn’t have my Aprilia then. It was a good weekend with 2 wins . This time i was racing in the formula 125 class.

Qualifying was wet ,very similar conditions to the thundersport 1st round at Mallory. I was really pleased as my lap times had improved and i was on pole.

1st RACE: I have been practising my starts a couple of times and my start was much better. I was up battling with the back of the GP 125 field and finished 1st in the formula 125 class.

2nd RACE: My start was not as good and battled 2 or 3 laps for the lead. I managed to pass and to create a gap to win the 2nd formula 125 race.

It was a good weekend and it was nice to be at emra as most of the officials know me. I choose to stay on the Dunlop tyres that i use at Thundersport despite other riders opting to use full wets. I was really pleased my lap times had improved and i felt much happier with my bike. Next race at Cadwell Park with Thundersport……….

Oulton Park 5th April Thundersport GB 2nd round

Monday, April 7th, 2008

Qualifying was wet and i ended up 15th on the grid of 41 riders.

1st RACE: My start was better but not good. After 2 laps the race was red flagged due to a couple of crashes. We restarted back on the grid i was now 17th. I managed a much better start and had a good rhythm and was able to make up a handful of places finishing 9th of 41 riders and 5th in the Nitro newcomers.

2nd RACE: As we sat on the line it started hailing. My start was much better and i managed to make a couple of places. By the end of the race i was battling in a group of about 4 riders, we were changing position at nearly every corner. At the end of the last lap i was at the front of the group and managed to hold on to 8th place over the line, and 3rd in the Nitro newcomers.

I really enjoyed my 1st race at Oulton Park. I still need to improve my starts, but i am getting a better understanding and feel for my bike. It was a good weekend and my 1st podium at Thundersport. My next race at Mallory Park 20th April with EMRA.

Mallory Park 16th March 1st round Thundersport GB

Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

After a matter of a few hours on my Aprilia i was feeling excited and positive about my 1st race.

Qualifying was wet and i ended up 8th on the grid of 46 riders.

1st RACE: The lights went out and i wheeled off the line which lost me a number of places going into the 1st corner. Conditions were still wet so i managed to make up 4 or 5 positions during the race finishing 10th of 36.

2nd RACE: This time i was slower off the line and one of the riders from behind me hit my front brake leaver as he pasted me. My bike wobbled like mad and my Dad said he had to look away thinking i was going to end up in the wall. Some how i saved it but by this time i was nearly last into the 1st corner with a damaged front brake leaver. I got myself together and had a good rhythm and managed to work my way up the field to finish 16th of 30 riders.

Not a bad 1st meeting but for Oulton Park i need to get my bike set up so i can get on it quicker. My starts have never been a problem, looking back now a couple of practise starts would have been helpful. Next race Oulton Park 5th of April can’t wait……………….
